Class Time Change for Adults
Effective immediately, the Monday evening adult karate and kobudo class schedules have changed. The karate
class is now 6:15-7:15PM, followed by obudo, 7:15-8:15PM.
Prius Raffle Tickets
Chuck Patterson has donated a Toyota Prius to be raffled at this month's Almond Bowl, the big football game
between Chico and Pleasant Valley High Schools. You can't beat the great mileage you get with a Prius. Take a
chance to win! But do it soon because these $20 tickets will only be available at the dojo until October 5th.

Canned Food Drive for the Salvation Army
For years Haley's Martial Arts has been involved with the Salvation Army's canned food drive during the
months of November and December. This year the barrel will be placed in the lobby during the month of
OCTOBER. Please help us fill the barrel and add a little warmth to someone else's winter.

Parent Karate Night
It's time for the parents who sit and watch from the benches to get out on the mat! It's our annual parent
karate night! Parents wear their kids' belts and take a karate class with Kyoshi Pat while the children cheer
from the benches. Afterwards we have a pizza party!
It's all happening on Friday, October 24th at 6PM. Please sign up at the front desk by Oct 22nd. We ask for a
$5 donation per family.
In House Karate Tournament
There will be an In-House Karate Tournament on Saturday, October 25th beginning at 9AM. This is a friendly
event intended to give students ages 4-12 the opportunity to try the competitive aspect of karate in a familiar
environment. Kyoshi and the rest of our staff are there to walk the students through the experience, teaching
them as they perform kata and spar with their peers for tournament points. All participants receive medals for
their events.
Application forms will be in the wall pockets by Room One mid-September and need to be completed and
turned in at the front desk by Oct 21st.
Women's Self Defense
Kyoshi Pat and his staff will be offering a self defense class for women on Sunday, October 26, 10am-1pm.
Applications are in the wall pockets outside Room One. Please note that extended family of dojo members may
take the class at the member's discounted rate of $25. It is SO worth the price! And it is fun too!!!!
Amateur Athletic Union
Haley’s Martial Arts Center is an AAU training facility. As such, all students at HMAC must be enrolled in the
insurance program offered by the AAU. The insurance covers any injuries incurred while involved in classes,
tournaments or dojo events. If the student already has insurance, the AAU insurance acts as a secondary.
Being a part of the AAU is very beneficial to the dojo. Although all students do not participate in the sporting
aspects of karate training, those who choose to compete as AAU members have a distinct advantage over non-
AAU schools. The rules are well-defined, coaches and referees are trained and certified, and the quality of
competition is significantly more advanced.
We feel the standards of martial arts we strive to teach and uphold at HMAC are a reflection of those of the
AAU. By enrolling in the AAU insurance program, students are supporting the quality instruction maintained at
the dojo.
Enrolling in the AAU
To enroll or renew your membership for the 2008-09 year, which operates September through August, pleae
visit the official website at www.aaukarate.org. On the right side of the page click on Join Now. Under
Categories, click on Athlete. Our club name is Haleys and club number is PAKAED8KA9. Because karate is a
contact sport, all athletes must sign up with the added benefit. The cost is $14 for youth and approximately
$25 for adults. After completing the forms you may print a copy of your membership card.
Please email bitzhaley@digitalpath.net with your membership number so I can update my records. Thank you
for taking care of this right away. I really appreciate it. It makes my job easier and smoother!
Talent Show!
Kyoshi Pat has been talking about having another dojo talent show...so mark your calendars now for this
exciting dojo event! The actual talent show will be on Friday, December 5th at 6:30PM. We need you to fill out
an information sheet (found in the wall pockets outside Room One) and turn it in to the front desk by Nov
14th. Then Kyoshi will have auditions and stage events on Nov 21st at 5:30PM.
We ask that acts are limited to three minutes or less and there are no martial arts involved! We know what
you can do in the dojo, now we want to see what you do outside! If you play a musical instrument or sing or
juggle or perform magic tricks or gymnastics...whatever it is that is your hobby...please share it with us!
